70. Chapel of Agioi Theodoroi
Brief documentation:
The Chapel of Agioi Theodoroi is located in the old town at the junction of Aristeidou and Sofokleous streets. It is one of the many chapels that exist in the traditional settlement of Xanthi. It is possible that there was an earlier church at this point during the Byzantine period, as there is evidence of a Byzantine marble decorative slab built into this chapel. The small rectangular plate bears an embossed cross with flowers on either side, which are located within a circular frame.
The chapel is a small one-room building which has a courtyard in front of it, through which the entrance to it is made. The building of the chapel is attached to the adjacent building, so the entrance door to it is in the middle of the north side of the building. Right next to the door there is a window, which is surrounded by a simple stone frame. The chapel has a gabled roof with tiles, while the apse of the altar, which protrudes to the east, has a separate roof. In front of the apse of the sanctuary the bell tower rises.
