The 'study area' or 'reference area' is defined as the area in the city of Xanthi enclosed by the streets: (west) 4th Oktovriou, Skiathos, IX Merarchias, (south) Eleftheriou Venizelos, Konitsis, Vassileos Konstantinou, Vassiliss Sofias to the bridge of the Kosynthos River, and from the west it is enclosed by the Kosynthos River, while from the north it extends to the end of the settlement and at the same time the northern limit of the city. This area also includes any notable buildings on either side of the streets that enclose it. The cultural routes concern one hundred (100)  points of interest in the reference area and aim to highlight these points in the Old Town of Xanthi, which due to their special characteristics and elements, can be a pole of attraction for cultural, educational, historical, folklore and religious tourism.
