Brief documentation:
Hotel Xenia in Xanthi was built in 1964 as part of a major program of building state hotel facilities under the name "Xenia". This program was implemented by the Greek National Tourism Organization (E.O.T.) in several cities in Greece, among which was Xanthi. This ambitious project began to be implemented in 1953, lasted until 1967 and aimed at promoting the natural beauty of Greece on a global level, under the supervision of the Greek National Tourism Organization.
Xenia Xanthi was built in 1964 by the architect George Nikoletopoulos. It was a category A hotel consisting of 43 beds. Today the building is owned by the Public Properties Company (E.T.A.D.) S.A. and after a modern renovation it housed until 2023 the Elisso Xenia Hotel Du Nord.
The building is a typical example of post-war modernism. It is a three-storey building of simple, linear construction, which is made of reinforced concrete and bricks. The building has spacious outdoor areas, which form the courtyard and the parking area of the hotel complex.
Important for the program of the state hotel facilities "Xenia" of EOT was the integration of the buildings into the landscape, the relationship between interior and exterior, the simplicity and clarity of form and the desire to integrate these units into the life of each place.
This hotel area is an important landmark of the city, as for several decades it held an important place in the social life of the inhabitants.
