67. Chapel of Zoodochos Pigi
Brief documentation:
The Chapel of Zoodochos Pigi is located on Pindarou Street and in 1934 bore the name Kalamouda. It was built in the second half of the 19th century. Testimonies speak of miraculous cures of children, but also of older believers.
A second chapel dedicated to Zoodochos Pigi is located on the White Tower Street in the old Xanthi.
The chapel of Zoodochos Pigi on Pindarou Street is built on a retaining wall, next to the secondary and today dried bed of Kosynthos (cut off in 1914).
The form of the chapel is single-aisled, very simple and does not have a sanctuary. The chapel is built mainly with clay masonry, with untreated stones, which are evident on its exterior, as well as wooden frames and red bricks. Its roof is gabled, with tiles.
It is one of the many chapels of the Mitropoleos district.
It is located in an area with particularly high traffic at night, as near it there are the entertainment centers of the so-called "shore" (a name that remained from the time when the secondary bed of Kosynthos created a nice riparian promenade).
