In the neighborhood of the Metropolis
The route is about 1 km long, lasts about 60 minutes and is of moderate difficulty. In it, the visitor will have the opportunity to explore the heart of the Old Town, the most central part of the traditional settlement, as it developed around the Metropolis of the city. Starting from Antikas Square, he will walk through its most famous and picturesque streets, the streets of Mayor Filippos Amoiridis and Orfeos to meet, among others, the Kaloudis, Kougioumtzoglou and Kalevras Mansions, located next to the Folklore and Historical Museum of F.E.X.

His course will end at Mitropoleos Square, which was identified with the Greek Orthodox community as around and near it were built the Metropolitan mansion, the Matsinis School and the Photiades House, which also served as the Greek Consulate in the late Ottoman period.

07. Papadopoulos House – 5th Municipal Daycare Center

The building was built around 1906, by George Papadopoulos and his wife Kleoniki. It initially functioned as a residence and later had various uses. During the Bulgarian occupation in World War II and later it was used as a police station. Since 1986, when it was bought by the Greek State and renovated, it houses the 5th Municipal Daycare Center of Xanthi.
The building is a two-story and stone-built building. It is of traditional style, with a simple appearance and without particular, decorative elements. It is characterized by neoclassical elements, symmetry and by the many windows it has. It consists of a semi-basement (visible on the side and back), ground floor and first floor. It has two reception rooms and twelve rooms. It has been repeatedly renovated and has undergone several changes, especially concerning the openings, since it initially functioned as a residence, while later it housed other uses. Another important change that was made was the opening of the entrance on the side of the square, as the entrance was originally through the side entrance through the courtyard.
