100. Paraschos House
Brief documentation:
The fully restored mansion belonged to the family of tobacco merchants Paraschos (Paraschidis). It was built in the late 19th century.
It is a building influenced by neoclassicism, with a semi-basement, elevated ground floor and first floor. Access to the building is through the courtyard and an imposing roofed staircase. Above the front door there is a balcony with protective iron bars and patio doors with arched overhead and pilasters.
There are dividing lines between the different levels of the building, openings lined up with absolute symmetry and corner pilasters with false capitals.
Apart from the frame that all windows have, those on the first floor also have triangular pediments and a serrated cornice at their bottom. There is a similar cornice on the roof of the building.
The building is protected by a wall with pillars and railing.
Among the family members Nikolaos stood out, an important photographer based in London and with the logo of N.C.P. (Nicolaos Constantaki Paraschos) on the photos. Around 1900, Paraschos published in London a small number of postcards on Xanthi.
